Clark County has many talented artists, crafters, photographers and cooks; and many of them are showcasing their talents and treasures at local Holiday Bazaars. We’ve put together a list of some local bazaars and unique shopping opportunities around Clark County and also included them on our Calendar page for ease in finding one that is convenient for you. Update: Please note that not all of the events are free admission. We have complied the information to the best of our ability, but some events may have an entrance fee that is not listed here.

The second Saturday of the month is the Battle Ground Wine Loop. Visit Rusty Grape Vineyards, Heisen House Vineyards, and Olequa Cellars between noon and 5 pm for free wine tasting and other fun activities.

While we may, or may not, have six more weeks of winter (Groundhog Day isn’t until Wednesday, February 2); it’s a sure sign of coming Spring when Little Leagues across  Clark County are holding their registrations for the beginning of Little League Baseball, and Softball, Season!

Clark County is home to many different Leagues in either Washington State District 6, or Washington State District 4. Most leagues have their open sign ups in January and early February, but will accept late registrations (please check with your local Clark County Baseball Little league).

District 6 is comprised of  Battle Ground Little League, Glenwood Little League, Hazel Dell Little League, Highlands Little League, Kalama Little League, La Center Little League, Lewis River Little League, North Clark Little League, Ridgefield Little League, and Salmon Creek Little League.

District 4 includes Bridge of the Gods Little League, Cascade Little League, Central Vancouver Little League, Columbia Little League, East County Little League, Evergreen Little League, Fort Vancouver Little League, and LaCamas Little League.

Join Vancouver residents Gary Kokstis and Katlin Smith as they share their three week journey to Lithuania to reunite their family on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Battle Ground Community Library at 4 pm.

In Search of Family: A Journey to Lithuania. In 1909, Gary Kokstis’ grandfather immigrated from Lithuania to the US. None of his family returned to Lithuania until 2010 when Vancouver resident Gary and his wife, Katlin Smith, located Gary’s long-lost relatives, who didn’t realize they had American cousins. This is a program about their three-week trip to Lithuania to reunite the family and meet cousins for the first time. Their travelogue will include photos of this beautiful Baltic country.

The Battle Ground Community Library is located at 1207 SE 8th Way, in the Battle Ground Village. Battle Ground Village is also home to some great dining and shopping, so why not make an evening of it?

On Thursday, January 6^th, State Attorney General Rob McKenna will be visiting the City of Battle Ground for a tour of the City led by Mayor Michael Ciraulo.

Mayor Ciraulo stated, “We are honored that Mr. McKenna will be touring and speaking in the City of Battle Ground.  The priorities of the Attorney General’s Office – consumer protection, government accountability and community safety – clearly serve the citizens of Battle Ground.”

Following the tour, Washington’s 17th Attorney General, Rob McKenna, will be discussing the business climate in Washington and speaking about “Legal Issues Affecting Washington State Business” at the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce Meeting on January 6 at 11:30.

The luncheon will be held at the Battle Ground Community Center (912 E Main Street). Tickets are $16 and includes admission, lunch and gratuity (you do not need to be a Chamber Member to attend this event).The ARC of Clark County will also be on site to collect gently used clothing.

The band Enation, from right here in Clark County, will have their song “Eyes of Grace” featured on General Hospital ( 2pm, on ABC) on Tuesday, November 16. Enation’s lead singer, Jonathon Jackson, plays ‘Lucky Spencer’ (Luke and Laura’s son) and has won 3 Emmy’s! The song will be featured as part of a musical montage and will expose Jackson’s musical abilities to the millions of fans who already know him as an actor.

But “General Hospital” isn’t the first soundtrack to feature Enation’s music. Having released their first album in 2004, they are considered one of the best independent rock bands in America, having been featured on MTV.com,TV Guide, and a host of soundtracks for film and TV including “One Tree Hill” and Stephen King’s “Riding The Bullet”.

Enation band members are Jonathon Jackson, Richard Lee Jackson, Daniel Sweatt, Michael Galeotti, and Luke Galeotti. Do those names sound familiar? They put on a great show last year at the Rusty Grape Vineyard in Battle Ground (wanna see some pictures?), and if you are wondering if there are any ties to the Battle Ground Restaurant Galeotti’s, the answer is “yes”. Also, in 2009 Enation was voted Best Local Musical Group by readers of the Columbian.

Hey, we (@ClarkCountyLive) have a question: When will Enation be performing in the Pacific Northwest again?

The Annual Ladybug Bazaar is always held the first Saturday in November (so that makes it November 6, 2010 this year) and will take place in both gyms at Battle Ground High School (151 tables!) between 9 am and 4 pm. There is no admission fee, but a canned or packaged food donation for the North County Community Food Bank would be awesome! (and they will accept cash, too )

The bazaar is hosted by the GFWC-Battle Ground, Wa. Starting as a small bazaar of 12 tables in the basement of the Odd Fellows Hall in 1967, the Ladybug Bazaar has over the years grown in size and prestige. It is currently one of the largest non-commercial bazaars in Southwest Washington. The quality of the merchandise offered to the public is superb, and all vendors must live in Clark County, Washington.

The Ladybug Bazaar has two missions: First to provide a venue for quality handcrafted items by local artisans; and second, to use the funds generated by the bazaar to help carry out additional service projects in the community. For more information, please visit the GFWC-Ladybug Bazaar.

You CAN make a difference! The North County Food Bank is having a food drive going on now until December 31; whether it’s one can, or a whole case, you can help make a difference to the hungry in Clark County!

Gateway Medical (2621 NE 134th Street, Vancouver) and the Holiday Inn Express in Salmon Creek (13101 NE 27h Ave) are currently collecting food donations through December 31 for the North County Food Bank. Here is a list of some of the most needed items: canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta, canned tomatoes, baked beans, soups, pasta sauce, peanut butter, tuna, rice, macaroni & cheese, oatmeal, jelly, boxed meals, pet food, shampoo, laundry soap, and toilet paper.

While the days of the grape stomp for wine making purposes is long gone, the day for the grape stomp for fun and prizes is just around the corner (and up the hill ) at the Rusty Grape Vineyard in Battle Ground on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

This event is from 12 to 8 pm, is free, and everyone is invited. There will be live music throughout the day with Kirby Swatosh, Robert and Jessica, and Carrie Cunningham; Bones Steak and Chop House will be there serving up some delicious dishes; and “crazy people stomping grapes to win prizes”!  So, grab a partner and jump into a barrel (actually a 1/2 barrel) full of grapes; whoever stomps the most juice, WINS! Then relax, have a glass of wine (NOT made with the stomped grape juice!), and enjoy the last remnants of summer.
