farmhouse 135 web Ridgefield Heritage DayIt’s time for some good, old fashioned fun at the 10th Annual Ridgefield Heritage Day Celebration this Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 9 am to 4 pm. It will take place at the Community Center and Davis Park (210 N Main, Ridgefield).  You don’t have to live in Ridgefield to come out and enjoy this fun, and free, event!

The days activities and events are about as varied as you can get! Here are some of the things you can expect: Pony rides and roping demonstrations, antique appraisals, art exhibit and sale, farmer’s market, live music, and a special Living History Presentation. Also on display will be antique tractors, vintage clothing, antique handmade quilts, Ridgefield High School Class pictures from every decade since 1930, as well as other photos and memorabilia from Ridgefield families. There will also be a portable scanner, so if you have some wonderful old photos you would like immortalized…bring them along!

And, of course, there will be food and treats! Cotton candy, Lions Club hamburgers and hot dogs, and the famous Church Ladies and their amazing pies! There are also local restaurants within walking distance of Ridgefield Heritage Day Celebration.

Showcasing the Bounty of Clark County Farms.

farm 300x225 Clark County Harvest CelebrationIt’s time for the WSU Clark County Extension 11th Annual Harvest Celebration, celebrating the diversity of farming in Clark County, Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 10 am to 3 pm.  Visit participating farms for free during this time, many offering tours and other informational classes during the day.

“As a society, we are rapidly losing our connection to the land and our food sources. Today, vegetables come out of a can and meat comes home from the store neatly wrapped in plastic on styrofoam trays. These come to us after being shipped hundreds or thousands of miles from where they were produced. Many consumers do not give much thought to the farmer who grows and raises this food.”

Many children (and adults) do not know what their favorite vegetable, fruit, or type of meat looks like as it is being grown or raised; and many have never visited a farm.  Now is the time to change that.  There are many different farms open, from Alpacas to Zinnias, Goats to Grapes and everything in between.

Day Full of Events Around Ridgefield.

ridgefield centennial Ridgefield Centennial Celebration“One hundred years ago, on August 20, 1909, the sound of church bells, firecrackers, and the whooping celebration of townspeople greeted the incorporation of Ridgefield, Washington. A special election had been held that day and incorporation was favored by a vote of 62‐12.” Excerpt from the Centennial Book written by Rebecca Standal.

Join in the Centennial Celebration of Ridgefield on August 22, 2009.  There is a day full of events scheduled throughout Ridgefield, beginning at 9 am with the All Weather Walker’s Volksmarch at Abram’s Park; and ending at 10 pm after a good old Barn Dance, also at Abram’s Park.

But, there is a lot going on in between.  There will be music, food, games and activities.  Antiques, tours, talks and competitions. When was the last time you saw a “Best Beard” competition?
